Booking choice: The Veuve Clicquot and family winery day, from $371 per person. Check dates Tour details
Veuve Clicquot is the house most visitors to Reims ask about first, and it has the story to match. Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin took over at 27 when her husband died in 1805, invented the riddling table in 1816 and made the first blended rosé in 1818, according to LVMH, which owns the house today.
This guide covers the five 2026 visit levels and what each one pours, the opening calendar with its long winter closure, how to get there from the centre, what a bottle costs in France, and the one guided day tour that includes the Veuve Clicquot cellars.
The quick answer
Book the €36 Brut Yellow Label visit (1 hour) on the house's site unless you love rosé (€60) or vintage wine (€160). From 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 it opens Wednesday to Sunday only. For the cellars plus a family grower and lunch, the guided Veuve Clicquot day from Reims station costs from $371.
Is the Veuve Clicquot tour worth it?
Yes, if you know the yellow label and want the story behind it. The €36 visit gives you the chalk cellars and a glass for an hour. It is not the place to meet a grower.
What you pay for is the setting and the history: chalk pits under the Saint-Nicaise hill, part of the UNESCO-listed Champagne hillsides, houses and cellars, and the house where riddling was invented. The visitor centre, boutique and café are accessible to people with reduced mobility, and staff can take wheelchairs and strollers down to the cellars on request.
What you do not get is variety. A big house shows you how it makes one consistent style year after year. If you have a single slot in Reims and the name means nothing special to you, Ruinart's cellars are more dramatic and Pommery opens more days. If it is Veuve Clicquot or nothing, go, and add a grower in the afternoon: see the best champagne tour in Reims.
How much does the Veuve Clicquot tour cost?
From €36 to €260 per person in 2026, across five levels. Every level includes the cellars and a tasting; the price buys rarer wines and more time.
These are the house's own 2026 prices on veuveclicquot.com.
| Visit | Price | Length | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brut Yellow Label, the birth of a style | €36 | 1 h | First visit, the classic |
| The art of blended rosé champagne | €60 | 1 h | Rosé fans: the house claims the first blended rosé |
| One Quality, The Finest | €80 | 1 h 30 | A step up, private booking possible |
| The art of aging | €160 | 2 h | Vintage lovers: old vintages poured |
| La Grande Dame | €260 | 4 h | A special occasion, vine to wine |
Which is the best Veuve Clicquot tour? For most people, the €36 one: same cellars, one hour, and the champagne you came for. Pay for The art of aging only if you already know you love older champagne. Private tours go through [email protected].
When is Veuve Clicquot open?
From 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, Wednesday to Sunday, 9:30 to 17:30, closed 25 December and 1 January. Then it closes for winter.
The house publishes its calendar season by season. In 2026 it stayed shut from 28 December 2025 to 7 April 2026, and when we checked it had not yet given a 2027 reopening date. Assume closed from early January until spring.
| Period | Days open |
|---|---|
| 7 April to 28 June 2026 | Tuesday to Sunday |
| 29 June to 30 August 2026 | Every day |
| 1 September to 1 November 2026 | Tuesday to Sunday |
| 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 | Wednesday to Sunday |
| Closed | 1 May, 25 December, 1 January 2027 |

Can you walk from Reims to Veuve Clicquot?
Yes. The house says about 30 minutes on foot from the city centre. By car or taxi, it is about 15 minutes from Reims Centre station.
The visitor centre is at 1 rue Albert Thomas on the Saint-Nicaise hill, in the south-east of the city. Rome2rio measures about 3.4 km from the station. It is a city walk through ordinary streets, not a scenic route. The bus is easier: Pommery gives bus C to the “Pommery” stop, about 20 minutes from the station, and Veuve Clicquot is a few streets from there.
Arriving by car? The house has 20 car spaces, five for buses and a bike area, and taxis drop off in front of reception. Pets are not allowed inside. If you are coming by train from Paris, make sure you book to Reims centre, not Champagne-Ardenne TGV, which the house puts about 10 minutes away by car.

What do you see on the Veuve Clicquot cellar tour?
The chalk pits, the cellars where the house ages its bottles, the riddling method Madame Clicquot invented, and a tasting at the end.
The visit starts above ground, then goes down into the crayères: chalk quarries dug centuries before champagne and later turned into cellars. The Saint-Nicaise hill hides 57 km of galleries in all, shared between the houses. The guide tells the house's story: founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, run from 1805 by his widow (veuve in French), who gave her name to the brand.
The riddling table she invented in 1816 is the thing to watch for. Bottles rest neck-down in angled holes and are turned a little each day until the yeast slides into the neck, where it can be removed. It is why champagne pours clear. Wear warm clothes: chalk cellars stay around 10 to 12 °C all year.

Is there a guided Veuve Clicquot tour from Reims?
Yes: the Veuve Clicquot and family winery day. It meets at Reims station at 9:20am and adds lunch, a grower and Hautvillers to the Veuve Clicquot cellars.
The Veuve Clicquot day is the only tour from Reims built around a big house. Its operator lists 90 minutes in the Veuve Clicquot cellars with four cuvées, a drive along the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, a two-hour lunch at Le Clos Corbier in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ with an aroma workshop and a blind tasting of three, then a family winery and 45 minutes in Hautvillers. About ten tastings in all, eight guests at most, back at the station at 5:30pm.
Read the fine print. The listing says “a similar champagne house may be substituted” if Veuve Clicquot is unavailable, which matters most in the Wednesday-to-Sunday winter weeks and after the January closure. The operator's own site states a 72-hour cancellation window; check what the GetYourGuide checkout shows for your date. At $371, it costs about the same as a €36 house ticket plus the three family domains day, which gives you three growers instead of one.

Explore the Veuve Clicquot and family winery day Tour detailsHow much does a bottle of Veuve Clicquot cost in France?
About €44 for Yellow Label Brut in a French supermarket: UFC-Que Choisir found it at €43.90 at Super U for its November 2025 test.
That puts it a little above Moët Impérial Brut at €41.93 in the same test. The Que Choisir listing describes Yellow Label as a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier with a brut dosage. The house boutique sells at its own list price and stocks the rosé, vintages and La Grande Dame.
Buying a bottle in Reims makes sense for the cuvées you cannot get at home, not for the yellow label. If you fly, pack it in checked luggage: most airports still cap cabin liquids at 100 ml. Comparing it with Moët? Read Moët vs Veuve Clicquot.

How do you pronounce Veuve Clicquot?
“Vuhv klee-KOH”. Veuve is one short syllable, and the final t of Clicquot is silent.
Veuve means widow, after Madame Clicquot, which is why English speakers sometimes call it “the widow”. The full name on the label is Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, her maiden name: say “pon-sar-DAN”, with a nasal ending. Nobody in Reims will correct you, and staff at the visitor centre speak English.
Next one: Moët is said “mo-ETT”, with the t sounded. Taittinger is “teh-tan-ZHAY”.
