Reims champagne houses in winter

Reims keeps pouring all winter, but not every house keeps its doors open. Here is who receives visitors from November 2026 to March 2027, day by day, taken from each house's own calendar.

The big houses on the Saint-Nicaise hill all sell their own cellar visits, and in summer you can walk up and pick almost any day. Winter is different. Veuve Clicquot drops to five days a week in November and then closes for three months. Mumm opens three or four days a week. Pommery barely blinks.

Below is the calendar for the seven Reims houses people ask about, checked on each house's visit page and the Reims tourist office listings on 2 November 2026. Then the part most guides skip: the small-group tours from Reims station visit family growers in the villages, and those keep running until just before Christmas.

The quick answer

Pommery is the safe pick: open every day except 25 December and 1 and 2 January. Taittinger opens Tuesday to Sunday, Lanson Monday to Saturday by booking. Veuve Clicquot opens Wednesday to Sunday from 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, then shuts until spring. Mumm opens Thursday to Monday until 21 December, lists nothing until 15 January, then Thursday to Saturday. The grower tours from Reims station run until 23 December; in 2026 they restarted on 2 January.

Which Reims champagne houses are open in winter 2026-27?

Pommery opens the most days, with Taittinger and Lanson close behind. Veuve Clicquot and Mumm cut their days, and Ruinart's listed season ends on 29 December.

Each row comes from the house's own visit page, or from its listing with the Reims tourist office where the house publishes no calendar. Where a house lists no hours for a stretch, the table says so instead of guessing. Book every visit online; walk-ins are the exception in Reims, not the rule.

Is Veuve Clicquot open in winter?

Until 3 January 2027, Wednesday to Sunday, 9:30 to 17:30, closed on 25 December and 1 January. After that the house lists no visits, and last winter it stayed shut until 7 April.

The Veuve Clicquot visit page gives Tuesday to Sunday opening until 1 November, then Wednesday to Sunday from 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Monday and Tuesday are off from now on. Last season the visitor centre closed on 28 December 2025 and reopened on 7 April 2026, and nothing is published after 3 January this time. Plan on no Veuve Clicquot visits from January to early April 2027.

The entry visit, Brut Yellow Label, costs €36 for an hour; the rosé visit is €60. The Veuve Clicquot and family winery day books the cellars for you, with a grower and lunch, and its listing allows "a similar champagne house" when Veuve Clicquot is unavailable. In January that substitution is a certainty, not a risk. If the yellow label is the reason for your trip, go before 3 January, on a Wednesday to Sunday. More on the visit itself in our Veuve Clicquot tour guide.

Which champagne houses in Reims are open all year?

Pommery, every day except 25 December and 1 and 2 January. Taittinger says its cellars open all year, Tuesday to Sunday, and Lanson lists Monday to Saturday.

Pommery runs Sunday to Thursday 10:00 to 18:00, Friday and Saturday 10:00 to 19:00, "all year round, 7 days a week". Its entry tour is €30 for an hour with one glass. It also sells a self-guided option, handy on a quiet January weekday. Bus C stops at "Pommery" about 20 minutes from the station.

Taittinger describes its Saint-Nicaise cellars as open all year round. Its booking page gives Tuesday to Sunday, closed 25 December and 1 January. The cellars are old Gallo-Roman chalk quarries, part of the UNESCO listing, and they are kept at 8 to 12 °C, so bring a coat whatever the weather upstairs.

Lanson, on rue de Courlancy, is listed by the tourist office as open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 18:00, and closed on Sunday. Visits there are by reservation only; the house says its shop and tastings take you without one.

Chalk cellars hold an even, cool temperature, so a January visit feels the same as a July one.

What about Mumm, Ruinart and Charles Heidsieck?

Mumm opens Thursday to Monday until 21 December and lists no visits from 22 December to 14 January. Ruinart's listed season ends on 29 December. Charles Heidsieck takes visitors by appointment only.

Mumm is the only big house a short walk from the station, which makes its calendar matter. From 1 November to 21 December it runs Thursday to Monday, 10:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 18:00. Then nothing is listed until 15 January, when visits restart Thursday to Saturday, 10:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:30. Thursday to Monday returns on 1 March. A trip on a Tuesday or Wednesday misses Mumm all winter.

Ruinart, the oldest house on the hill, sells one cellar visit at €90 with two cuvées and twelve places. The tourist office lists its 2026 season from 25 March to 29 December, by appointment. A third-party guide that cites the house's pages reports the Ruinart pavilion closes on 11 November, the Armistice holiday (En Primeur Club). Book it before Christmas or wait for spring.

Charles Heidsieck sits on the same hill, with crayères 30 metres down. It sells no public visits on a calendar; listings give visits by appointment only, and most of what is written about its cellars comes from trade and press tours. For the full tour of the hill, see our guide to the champagne houses in Reims.

Do the grower tours from Reims run in winter?

Yes, until just before Christmas. The Épernay tourist office lists the operator A la Française Champagne as open from 2 January to 23 December 2026.

The small-group tours that leave from the Reims Centre station tourist office do not depend on a visitor centre calendar. They take you to family growers in the Montagne de Reims and around Hautvillers, who open their press houses to the guide. The Épernay tourist office lists A la Française Champagne, which runs the morning, afternoon, Veuve Clicquot and e-bike days, as open from 2 January to 23 December 2026. Plan around the same break this year, from Christmas Eve to New Year.

The morning tour is our winter pick: two family estates and six glasses, 9:20 am to 1:10 pm, minimum two guests. You are back at the station by lunchtime, with daylight left for Pommery or Taittinger. The afternoon tour finishes at 6:30 pm, which in December means the last hour is in the dark. Skip the e-bike day from December to February. Its listing swaps the bikes for the minivan in bad weather, and Reims averages a December high of 6.9 °C (Météo-France).

How do you plan a winter champagne day in Reims?

Go Thursday to Sunday before 21 December, book a grower tour in the morning and one house in the afternoon, and avoid 24 December to 2 January.

  • Thursday to Sunday is the only window when Pommery, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot and Mumm all open, until 21 December.
  • Christmas week is thin. The grower tours stop on 23 December, Mumm lists nothing from 22 December, and Pommery closes on 25 December and 1 and 2 January.
  • January means Pommery or Taittinger. Veuve Clicquot is shut, Ruinart lists no season, and Mumm opens Thursday to Saturday from 15 January.
  • Morning out, afternoon in. A grower tour from 9:20 am and a house visit at 3 pm fit inside the daylight.
  • Indoor backup. The Museum of the Surrender opens 10:00 to 18:00 except Tuesdays and 25 December.

Late November and December also bring the Christmas market beside the station; our Christmas market post has the dates and hours. For which tour to book, read the best champagne tour in Reims.
