Booking choice: The afternoon family wineries tour, from $146 per person. Check dates Tour details
Reims has two kinds of champagne visit, and they rarely overlap. The great houses on the Saint-Nicaise hill sell their own cellar tours, booked direct in euros. The small-group tours that meet outside the central station mostly do something else: they drive you out to the Montagne de Reims, the Marne valley and Hautvillers to taste with families who grow the grapes and make the wine themselves.
We compared the seven champagne tours that start in Reims on what shapes your day: who you meet, when you leave and get back, how many glasses, whether lunch is in, the group size, and the 2026 from-price in USD on GetYourGuide. Our view on the best Reims day is simple: one house on your own, one tour to the growers.
The quick answer
For most people, the afternoon family wineries tour ($146): two growers, six tastings and Hautvillers, from 2pm to 6:30pm, which leaves the morning free for a house visit. Short on time, take the morning tour ($135). For the full region in one day, the three family domains day ($282). Want one famous name too? Only the Veuve Clicquot day ($371) adds a big house.
Which is the best champagne tour in Reims?
The afternoon family wineries tour. Two growers, six tastings, Hautvillers and eight guests at most, and it starts at 2pm, which leaves you a free morning in Reims.
It wins on fit more than on any one feature. The minivan leaves from in front of the tourist office at Reims Centre station, drives about 30 minutes into the vineyards and spends 90 minutes at the first family winery. Then comes 45 minutes in Hautvillers, the hill village where Dom Pérignon is buried, and another 90 minutes at a second grower. Three tastings at each make six glasses. You are back at the station at 6:30pm.
The 2pm start is the clever part. You can take a morning train from Paris, or spend the morning at Mumm or Pommery and the Gothic cathedral, and still be on time. Guests report small groups and guides who know their subject; Nada summed it up: “Great Tour, guided was very easy to talk to and knowledgeable on all things champagne. Would recommend!”
Two caveats. The growers are not named in advance, and the tour needs two bookings to run. It is not for children under 12 or wheelchair users.

Two family wineries, six tastings and Dom Pérignon's village, from Reims station at 2pm, back by 6:30pm.

They fall into three groups: half days with growers, full days with lunch, and short rides or tastings that stay close to the city.
Every shared tour below caps the group at eight. All except the Land Rover ride and the city tasting meet at the Reims Centre station tourist office, not at Champagne-Ardenne TGV, which is 8 km out of town.

For a cathedral visit with a guide on the same trip, the guided cathedral tour runs 90 minutes from $12.
Which Reims tour visits a famous champagne house?
Only the Veuve Clicquot day. Its listing books the Veuve Clicquot cellars with four cuvées and keeps a backup: “a similar champagne house” if the slot is unavailable.
Read the itinerary, not the address bar. The morning tour's GetYourGuide link still says “taittinger”, but its operator now describes two family estates and no Taittinger visit. The other grower tours never name their producers. That is not a trick: the big houses sell cellar slots on their own terms, and the small growers are the point of these tours.
If one name matters most, book it yourself. Mumm and Pommery start at €30, Veuve Clicquot at €36, Taittinger at €40 and Ruinart at €90, and you can walk or take the bus from the centre. Prices, hours and the winter calendar are in our guide to the champagne houses in Reims, and the Veuve Clicquot visit levels in the Veuve Clicquot tour guide.

A half day if you also want a house visit or the cathedral. A full day if the vineyards are the whole point of your trip and you want lunch sorted.
The two half days are near twins. The morning tour runs 9:20am to 1:10pm with two family estates, a boutique grower's press house and cellars, then a smaller estate where the owners walk you into the vines. The afternoon tour swaps that walk for 45 minutes in Hautvillers. Pick by the clock: morning if you have a house booked after lunch, afternoon if your train arrives late.
The three family domains day is the deep version: three estates, nine glasses, a main course at lunch, a stop in Hautvillers and a drive down the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. Eight hours sounds long. It does not drag, because there are three cellars to break it up. Cristine, after the domains day: “We had a fantastic day. Everything from logistics to lunch to the tastings was great.”

Three family estates, nine glasses, lunch, Hautvillers and the Avenue de Champagne, from 9:20am at Reims station.
Explore the three family domains day Tour detailsWhat is the best champagne tour for wine lovers?
The three family domains day. Three growers in one day let you taste how the same region changes from one village and one family to the next.
Growers make the champagne you rarely find at home. The Comité Champagne counts 16,200 growers working 90% of the vines, while 370 houses ship more than two-thirds of the bottles. A big-house tour tells you how a brand keeps its taste the same every year. A grower tells you why this year's wine tastes different, often while standing in the press house.
Look for RM on the label at the growers: récoltant-manipulant, a grower who makes wine from their own grapes. Buying a bottle or two at the cellar door is normal and nobody pushes. If you have only half a day, the afternoon tour still gets you two growers.

Is there a short champagne tour in Reims?
Yes. The Land Rover ride takes two hours from behind the cathedral, and the city centre tasting takes one hour, three champagnes and no vineyard.
The Land Rover vineyard ride leaves from 3 cours Anatole France, behind the cathedral, climbs into the Montagne de Reims vineyards for views back over the city, and ends with at least two glasses of Brut Tradition in the vines. Two hours, no producer, and no minivan. It is not for pregnant travellers or anyone with back problems. Marcy put it well: “What a unique and informative way to see the vineyards.”
The city centre tasting is a sommelier, three champagnes and an introduction to terroir in the Boulingrin district, a short walk from the cathedral. It suits a rainy hour or an evening, and it is for over-18s only. Neither replaces a grower tour, but both fit around one.

Two hours in a Land Rover Defender through the Montagne de Reims vineyards, with a brut tasting.

The e-bike tour: three hours riding the UNESCO slopes above Aÿ and Hautvillers, then lunch and four wines at Le Clos Corbier, a family domain.
The e-bike tour collects you at Reims station at 9am (or at Épernay at 9:35) and drives 45 minutes to Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. The motor does most of the climbing; you still need to ride with confidence. Lunch and the tasting of two champagnes, a red and a ratafia follow at Le Clos Corbier, then short stops with views over Aÿ and in Hautvillers. You are back in Reims at about 4pm.
Riders must be 12 or older and at least 155 cm tall. In bad weather the ride becomes a minivan tour. Jill M: “This was a great way to visit the Champagne vineyards. The e-bikes made the cycling part of the trip easy.”

Three hours on an e-bike through the UNESCO vineyards above Aÿ, then lunch at a family domain.
Check dates for the e-bike champagne tourShould you book a tour or visit the champagne houses yourself?
Do both. A house visit costs €30 to €90 and you can reach it from the centre; the growers in the villages need a car, which is what the tours sell.
Here is a sample day for one person, using the 2026 prices on the houses' own sites and the GetYourGuide from-prices.
| Plan | What you see | Cost | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| House on your own | One big cellar, 1 to 2 tastings | €30 (Mumm, Pommery) to €90 (Ruinart) | No vineyard, no grower |
| Grower tour only | Two or three families, the vines | $135 to $282 | No famous name |
| House + afternoon tour | Mumm or Pommery at 10am, two growers from 2pm | About €30 + $146 | Book the house ahead |
| Veuve Clicquot day | One big house, one grower, lunch | $371 | House can be swapped |
Our pick is the third row. Book a morning cellar at Mumm, a 20-minute walk from the station, or Pommery, open every day of the year but three, then join the 2pm tour. The full timetable is in things to do in Reims, and current visit prices in our 2026 cellar prices post.
